The Building Inspection Department is responsible for issuing permits (building, electrical, HVAC, Plumbing) related to all properties and improvements in the City. The Inspector also serves as the Zoning Administrator for the City of Fort Atkinson.

Brian Juarez has served as the Building Inspector for the City of Fort Atkinson since 1995. He has earned the following Certifications: UDC - Construction, HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing, Commercial Building, OSHA Outreach Trainer Certification, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector both International Code Council and State of Wisconsin.

Mr. Juarez served as the Chair of the UDC Code Council for two years, is currently the President of Southwest Wisconsin Electrical Inspectors Association, and is on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors - Wisconsin Chapter.

COVID-19 Department operations

During the ongoing efforts to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus the building and zoning departments will be making the following changes:

1. The Inspection and Zoning department can be reached at City Hall during the Inspector's office hours. It is advised that you call ahead with inspection or permit questions and to verify availability beforehand at (920) 563-7760.

2. Field inspections will be limited to emergency reconnection of electrical or water service or primary structural assemblies. All other inspections will either be conducted at a later date or pictures of the work may be submitted via email to the inspection department by the contractor or homeowner. Contractors or homeowners completing construction, plumbing, electrical or heating ventilation and air conditioning work shall be responsible for following all State and Municipal codes per State statutes 101, 145 and 167.
