The City of Fort Atkinson Compost Site is located east of Whitewater Avenue on Bark River Drive behind Memorial Park and is available for use by residents in the City of Fort Atkinson and the Town of Koshkonong.
The site will be opening Saturday, April 6th. The hours for the site are: Saturday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm; with extended hours on Wednesday of 3:00 pm to sunset, for dropping off of brush, grass, leaves and garden materials.
ELECTRONICS AND APPLIANCES: Only accepted while attendant is on duty - Wednesdays 3:00 pm to sunset and on Saturdays 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
This site will be monitored by security cameras.
Acceptable items include: brush, grass clippings, leaves, garden and flower plant materials.
Unacceptable items include: rocks, gravel, cement, food waste, kitchen waste, trash, cardboard, paper and plastic bags.
Electronic waste trailer open on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to sunset and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m from the first Saturday in April to the first Saturday in December. Electronic items such as laptop computers, printers, flat screen televisions, flat screen computer monitors, computer peripherals, DVD players, digital video recorders, VCRs, radios, CD players fax machines and cell phones may be dropped off at no charge.
Due to an increase in recycling costs, there will be a $20 fee per old style televisions, console televisions, and old style computer monitors. Please have exact change or check when dropping off these items.
Household appliances are also accepted for recycling. Items such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, toasters, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, blenders, toaster ovens, air conditioners and any other small household appliances may be dropped off at no charge. All refrigerators or freezers must be clean, have the doors removed and all glass shelving removed before they are dropped off.
Please, no salvaging allowed.
Other items not accepted at the compost site are glass, batteries of any kind, light bulbs, smoke detectors, mercury containing devices, X-ray devices, exit signs, contaminated medical equipment, any materials containing PCBs, furniture and items that are run by gasoline/diesel/kerosene due to a fire hazard.
Curbside Brush Pickup
The City provides brush pickup to the north side of the city(north of Rock River) during the 1st full work week of each month and to the south side (south of Rock River) the 2nd full work week of each month. Only brush that is more than 3/4" in diameter at the cut end and more than 3' in length should be placed at the curb for collection. Anything smaller will plug the chipper and must be taken to the Compost Site. Brush should be put at the curb, piled neatly with the cut end facing the street.
EFFECTIVE APRIL 6, 2019 - Brush can NO longer be dropped off at the City Garage, 700 James Place .
